According to Yahoo News, “… three U.S. lawmakers plan to propose a new law that would punish hackers backed by China, Russia or other foreign governments for cyber spying and theft.” This announced just the day before the Chinese President is to visit the U.S. Capitol and meet with President Obama.
This will be the second such legislation taken up by Congress after the Deter Cyber Theft Act was introduced last month. Already, acts of Piracy and Cyber theft caused by hacking carry stiffer penalties than rape, arson, or armed robbery in most states.
The text to this new bill has yet to be published. However from the article, it sounds as though penalties for hacking are only getting stiffer and stronger. The government is attempting to find more effective ways of punishing international cyber crime.
